OSCA would like to congratulate Rene Manly for receiving the Don Perkins Grant award for the Spring 2014.  Rene is an elementary school counselor. Her project is called ‘My Future Life’. She requested grant money to take approximately 60 fifth grade students to Western Oregon University. This is the capstone experience to the five lesson unit on career and college awareness that she called ‘My Future Life’.  Rene works in a Title 1 elementary school where more than ninety percent of the students are below the poverty line and more than sixty-five percent are Second Language Learners.  Many of the students have limited awareness of a college or university setting. Rene hopes this experience will help students see a wide variety of possibilities for their future, and connect their actions today to their future opportunities.  We are OSCA congratulate Rene and wish her and her students an exciting field trip!!
