Waiting for Superman... Watch it and share what you think!

I just finished watching Waiting for Superman and was disturbed by the seeming break-down of many of our educational systems.

It is an honor to work with kids and I believe high standards should be in place for high stakes investments... the education of our children. When working in schools, it is disheartening when colleagues are not professional and have potentially negative influences on students.

On February 24, 2011 the president of the American Federation of Teachers (Weingarten) called for action surrounding current teacher evaluation and dismissal practices. The proposal suggests that tenured teachers, who rate unsatisfactorily, are given one year to improve or they can be terminated.

As school counselors, we are oftentimes evaluated and retained under these same policies. I am curious what your thoughts are about current dismissal practices and the proposal that has been offered.

I look forward to your comments. Kathryn
