Conference
Committee

This is a good place to become active with OSCA. We hold a conference every year and there are always a
myriad of jobs to be done to make the coference  successful.  The 2008 conference will be held at Chinook
Winds Casino and Resort October 10th and 11th.  For more information contact Ria Dunn, Conference Chair at Conference@oscainc.org
find out how you can help.

Education Committee

The Education Committee has two primary roles:

  1. Provide or coordinate the provision of continuing education opportunities for professional school counselors.
The Committee will work to ensure that all school counselors including those needing credits for advanced licensure have access to courses and workshops designed to meet the needs of school counselors.
  2. Support OSCA’s mission of supporting the development and implementation of comprehensive school counseling programs in all Oregon schools.
The Education Committee members will be trained as trainers.  It is the hope that there will be volunteers
in each of the primary regions of the State.  The consultants/trainers will then provide local support to those schools/districts desiring assistance with the development and implementation of comprehensive school counseling.

If you are interested in joining the Education Committee, please contact Gene Eakin, Education Chair at Education@oscainc.org.

Elections Committee
If you would like to get involved with OSCA, but don't have a lot of time to commit, this is a committee for you.  This committee is responsible for seeking candidates for elected board positions, putting together the ballots for mailing and counting the ballots once received.  The committee will meet twice during the spring.  If you are interested in helping please contact Jan Updegraff, President Elect at presidentelect@oscainc.org.

Membership Committee
Being part of the Membership Committee is like feeling the pulse of OSCA. The Committee keeps track of membership numbers and data, and communicates with members throughout the year via letters, emails, and newsletter articles. We have a table at the annual conference where we get to meet and greet both new and returning members. We are continually looking at new ideas for outreach and marketing, so if you have skills and/or interests in those areas we would love to have you join us. For more information, please contact Marla Dow at Membership@oscainc.org .

Professional Development Grants Committee

Professional Interest Network Committee

Ethics, The School Crisis Response Planning Team (SCRPT), and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) comprise the sub-groups of OSCA’s Professional Interest Network Committee.

  1. The Ethics Committee supports school counselors in their understanding of and adherence to the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors.
  2. The School Crisis Response Planning Team (SCRPT) provides information and training resources to school counselors in the areas of crisis prevention, intervention and services provided in the aftermath of a school tragedy.  The SCRPT Committee maintains a list of those trained as Coordinators and Liaisons to respond in fulfillment of the OSCA/American Red Cross Statement of Understanding.
  3. The Positive Behavior Support Committee collaborates with school counselors and other educators on the effective role of school counselors in districts implementing both a Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program and a Positive Behavior Support Program.

For more information on one of these Committees, please contact Linda Eby at pin@oscainc.org

Professional Recognition Committee
This committee evaluates submissions for School Counselor of the Year and Administrator of the year.  This committee meets 1-2 times in early September.  What a great way to get involved in your professional organization without a large time commttment.  If you are interested in this committee, please contact Jan Updegrafat elementaryvp@oscainc.org.

Research Committee
The Research Committee will work at demystifying the research process, collecting and sharing data on our school counselors and the effectiveness of their work, and helping our school counselors to do the same within their districts and with one another.  This work is important because it helps us advocate and promote the need for school counselors’ work in our schools throughout our state.  For more information contact Kathy Biles, Research Chair at Research@oscainc.org.
